Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre in Ōtautahi is celebrating Matariki 2025 from 7 to 22 June with a vibrant programme of events that showcase te ao Māori, creativity, and community spirit. This annual celebration honours the Māori New Year, a time to reflect, remember, and rejuvenate. The 2025 line-up includes live performances, workshops, food, visual art, market and children’s activities, all set against the backdrop of The Arts Centre's heritage setting.
The Māori Sidesteps headline the performance line-up with their trademark humour and harmony, while the Harakeke Wall Hanging workshop with Kahu Collective offers hands-on insight into traditional Māori weaving. Boil Up – Hākari celebrates communal kai with a hearty midwinter feast, and Pepe presents a powerful visual art installation exploring identity and whakapapa. The lively Matariki Mākete offers an unforgettable evening under the stars with over 60 local artisans and live entertainment, and tamariki can enjoy waiata and te reo fun at the Matariki for Tamariki concert by Loopy Tunes.
There’s much more on offer and with a little something for everyone, it's the perfect opportunity to connect with whānau, friends, and the wider community.
