NZ Opera’s 2021 season of The Marriage of Figaro – the world-premiere of a sumptuous staging by the superstar trans-Tasman creative duo of Lindy Hume and Tracy Grant Lord – remains a high-water mark in the company’s history. For its centrepiece mid-year season, with a cast boasting an almost-unbelievable wealth of talent from Aotearoa and Australia, NZ Opera is thrilled to finally bring this incredible opera to the fair city of Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
Picking up narratively where The Barber of Seville left off, The Marriage of Figaro is renowned for its wit and musical sophistication – truly an example of the legendary Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart operating at the height of his powers.
With an outstanding principal cast joined on stage by the Freemasons Foundation New Zealand Opera Chorus and accompanied by Orchestra Wellington – conducted, for the first time, by James Judd – this season offers opera at its most gorgeous, its most vivid, its most unforgettable.
