She’s got nine lives. Time to heal them all.
From 23–27 September at 6:30 PM in Basement Theatre’s Studio, audiences are invited to step into Pussy Play — a sultry, subversive, and surprisingly healing new work that blends puppetry, music, and magic into an unforgettable hour of theatre.
At its heart is Indigo, sultry, sharp-tongued, and a little unhinged, who takes to the stage with her enigmatic pussy Evie in her lap. Together, they navigate the terrifying yet liberating business of piecing a shattered self back together. With direction by Acacia O’Connor, and written, performed, by Indigo Paul, this show confronts darkness with black humour, dangerous vulnerability, and enough messy mischief to keep things wildly alive.
Prepare to laugh in all the wrong places, bite your bottom lipin the right ones, and leave strangely intoxicated by hope. This work does not shy away from raw and necessary conversations: it boldly explores recovery from sexual trauma and is recommended for mature audiences.
To ensure access, tickets operate on a Choose What You Pay basis. All profits will be donated: 50% to Gaza Soup Kitchen, which provides hot meals and clean water to Palestinians in Gaza facing deliberate starvation. The other 50% will be donated to Panzi Foundation, which supports Congolese survivors of sexual violence to get the healing, justic, community, and future they deserve.
Presented in association with Grammelot Productions —most recently seen touring Ella Yiannoutsos’ acclaimed play NO NO NO across Te Waipounamu, the South Island — Pussy Play is unapologetically magical, sorrowful, joyous, and provocative. It is therapy disguised as a magic show, a raw heart wrapped in fur and armed with claws.
