The beautiful effects of Sakiori weaving are achieved through the combining of a variety of textiles. Saki - to tear and ori - to weave describes this process which originated in Japan.  The repurposing of textiles through tearing material into thin strips and weaving these together was a valued skill and helped to create new clothes, bags, rugs and blankets from worn clothing.

As this process involves the weaving of strips of textile rather than finer materials such as cotton or wool, the effect is beautifully tactile.  Louise Cook will spend the day sharing her skills and knowledge of this ancient craft.  Looms and all materials will be provided as participants join with Louise in the heart of the beautiful Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum.

Come along with creative ideas or wait to be inspired by the environment or Louise's incredible array of materials.  Don't miss the opportunity to create your own unique and beautiful piece.
