Aotearoa is the seabird capital of the world, home to about 90 species of the world’s seabirds. Just as canaries once warned coal miners of carbon monoxide, seabirds signal the declining health of our ecosystem. With the birds increasingly threatened by habitat loss and predators, Sentinel serves as an urgent call to action.

Through science, photography, interactive video, sculpture, and sound, Sentinel invites you into the world of these magnificent creatures. The collective of scientists and creatives Edin Whitehead, André Bellvé, Marcel Bellvé, Micah Livesay, Lani Purkis, and Shane McLean urge us to protect Aotearoa New Zealand’s seabirds, their environment, and our shared ecosystem.
