Join us this Te Rā o Waitangi and learn about the hītori (histories) of the 1840 Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Can you tell which Te Tiriti sheets are made from animal skin? Can you find Hōne Heke’s signature? Did rangatira (chiefs) in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara sign Te Tiriti?
There will be activities for tamariki (children), rangatahi (youth), and pakeke (adults) throughout the day.
Join a reorua (bilingual) tour to learn more about Te Tiriti, brush up your whakahua te reo Māori (pronunciation), sing waiata, or add your own tohu (mark) to the collective tiriti canvas. Watch film footage compiled by Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision or test your Te Tiriti knowledge with a quiz.
From 9am to 3pm we will have taonga that relate to the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi on display in the Alexander Turnbull Library.
HOME Café will be open until 2pm, and City Gallery Wellington will be open until 4pm.
