Lead community arts projects in Kaipātiki

NorthArt is looking for a connector. Someone who understands the power of art not just in galleries but in libraries, parks, halls and shared spaces. As our Art in the Community Lead, you’ll bring together artists, organisations and local communities to create meaningful arts experiences that reflect and strengthen Kaipātiki.

We’re currently in a time of transition. Our new building is under construction, which means we’re operating with a temporary space and thinking differently about how and where we work. This creates room for experimentation: collaborating in new spaces, partnering with diverse local groups, and making art happen in unexpected places.

You’ll be responsible for delivery. Not just dreaming up good ideas, but making them happen. That includes growing and deepening community engagement and helping us measure it. You’ll understand how to track and report on the impact of our work, from social media reach to in-person audience numbers, so we can celebrate success and learn as we go.

You’ll also bring a mix of strategic thinking and practical know-how. You can plan ahead, see the big picture and keep things on track and you’re also happy to roll up your sleeves when needed. You’ll understand how to use digital tools and social platforms to extend the reach of exhibitions, events and programmes, and how to blend online and real-world experiences to connect with new and existing audiences.

The role includes coordinating volunteers, managing budgets and timelines, writing grants, and reporting on progress and impact. You’ll be supported by a part-time Programme Assistant (who reports to you), a volunteer Programming Panel, and the NorthArt Committee.

What you’ll bring

  • At least 5+ years in community arts, cultural programming or similar
  • A good grasp of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and confidence working cross-culturally
  • A network of local arts and community contacts, or the ability to build one (Connection to Kaipātiki community preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and a knack for bringing the right people together
  • Project management skills and a results focus
  • Confidence using digital platforms and tools to extend reach and engagement
  • Ability to track and report on participation, impact and audience growth
Creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to accessible, community-led arts
  • Full driver licence and willingness to do light physical work e.g. for exhibition or event set up
