The Board of Trustees of the National Museum of the Royal New Zealand Navy is seeking a new Chair of the Board.

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a mature board at a vital time for the Navy Museum, with significant changes and opportunities on the near horizon.

The ideal candidate is someone who has strong governance skills and knowledge gained through prior roles, and experience in the museum, heritage and or cultural sector. An individual who can champion a partnership approach between the Board and the RNZ Navy is critical. The Chair would ideally be based in Tamaki Makaurau Auckland, to provide support to the Museum Director.

This is not a remunerated position, but reasonable travel costs are covered. The Board members meet around 6 times a year.

The role ideally will commence by December 2025, with formal confirmation of position at the Board’s AGM in December. There is an interim Chair for this period. For further information or for an informal conversation, you are invited to contact either Museum Director David Wright: david.wright@nzdf.mil.nz or t: 021 766 414. The outgoing Chair, Sally Manuireva, is also available for a conversation until end July 2025 on sally.manuireva@motat.org.nz. Applications close Friday 5th September.
