River care group, the Styx Living Laboratory Trust, invites Canterbury-based artists working in any art form to apply for its upcoming and final 2025/26 Creative Communicator programme. This might suit visual artists, such as photographers, printmakers, painters, sculptors, film makers or installation artists; and creators such as composers, writers, poets and choreographers. In this funded role, the Creative Communicator will spend 12 weeks interacting with the Styx Pūharakekenui river catchment in the North of Christchurch.

Interpreting freshwater values through creative practice, they will involve and inspire people through the art they produce to consider and care for their local awa environment. The Creative Communicators programme is part of the Styx Living Laboratory Trust’s Ministry for Environment-funded Project Kōtare, which encompasses the eradication of significant areas of pest plants in the catchment and replanting native vegetation.

Further information and details on how to apply before the 31st May deadline can be found at www.thestyx.org.nz/art-in-the-styx
