Te Atamira offers a wide-ranging programme of exhibitions, workshops, classes, performances, events and talks designed for everyone to be creative, every day. Te Atamira has 22 purpose-built spaces, including an art gallery, dance studios, performance spaces, a recording studio, music teaching and rehearsal rooms, a pottery studio, art workshop and a community project space. Mahi | The Role  

As Director of Te Atamira, you will be responsible for leading the organisation’s strategic vision, ensuring it remains a dynamic and inclusive centre for arts and culture. This role requires a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with an understanding of Tikanga Māori and the ability to foster relationships that align with Mana Whenua and Māoritanga values.  

 

You will oversee the development and delivery of the annual strategic plan, drive fundraising efforts by engaging with private and public sector partners, and curate a diverse programme of events that encourage artistic exchange locally and internationally. In addition, you will build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, sponsors, and patrons, ensuring broad community engagement.  

 

As a leader, you will manage and inspire a talented team, cultivating a collaborative and supportive organisational culture. 

 

Ō Pukenga me Ō Wheako | Your Skills and Experience 

The ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience in an arts, cultural, or community setting, with a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application. You will be an energetic, action-oriented leader with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of fostering inclusive relationships and promoting cultural equity. A proven track record in event planning, venue management, and programme development is essential, along with strong financial management and problem-solving abilities. Expertise in user design, brand development, and technology solutions is highly valued.  

 

You will be a strategic thinker with the ability to inspire and lead diverse teams, driving a shared vision for Te Atamira’s future.  

 

A Master’s degree or qualification in the arts, arts administration, or a related field, along with at least five to ten years of experience in the arts, not-for-profit, or community sectors, is required.
