We deliver exhibitions, education, and public programmes that inspire engagement with the arts and connect people and communities across Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond.

 

The Role

We are seeking a part-time Engagement Coordinator (Public Programmes) to lead the delivery of our public-facing programmes. This role will suit someone who is highly organised, people-focused, and passionate about making contemporary art accessible and engaging to diverse audiences.

 

The Engagement Coordinator will develop, deliver, and coordinate events and activities that bring visitors into meaningful contact with our exhibitions, artists, and collection. Programmes include:

  • Exhibition openings, tours, and related talks/workshops
  • Music at Midday, free concerts
  • School holiday programmes and family activities
  • Community days, festivals & markets, workshops, and special projects

 

This role works closely with the Director, Facilities Manager, Curator, Events/Venue Hire Manager, and Marketing Manager to ensure programmes are well planned, promoted, and delivered to a high standard.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver public programmes that align with AHT’s mission and exhibitions schedule.
  • Build strong relationships with artists, performers, community groups, and sector partners.
  • Coordinate logistics for talks, concerts, workshops, and internal events.
  • Ensure timely communication of programme information to Marketing for promotion.
  • Collect and report on attendance, feedback, and outcomes to evaluate programme impact.
  • Support broader audience engagement initiatives at AHT.

 

About You

  • 3+ years’ experience coordinating public or community programmes in the arts, culture, or education sector.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills. High standard of professionalism. 
  • Strong people skills – confident working with artists, performers, families, and diverse communities.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a small team.
  • Flexible, with the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • A genuine passion for arts engagement and contemporary visual culture.
  • Oversee and coordinate volunteers and casual event staff to ensure smooth operation.
  • Passion for arts and culture, with respect and awareness of cultural protocols.
  • Commercially astute with experience in budgeting, financial administration, and revenue management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Xero, Google Workspace
