In 1998, SCAPE Public Art began to revolutionise the open spaces of Ōtautahi Christchurch – and public arts practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.  SCAPE Public Art installs free-to-view contemporary public art in Central Christchurch, engaging the community through exciting work that is celebrated around Aotearoa and the world.  SCAPE Public Art installs public art all year round with a focus on its annual Seasons. They are experts in public art installation, and the SCAPE Public Art Seasons are recognised as New Zealand’s premier public art events. As the largest producer of new contemporary public artwork in Aotearoa New Zealand, these artworks provide a unique point of difference for the city.  Ambitious and high impact, they enhance the urban centre and raise the profile of public art in Ōtautahi Christchurch.  SCAPE Public Art’s vision is for people to be excited, engaged and stimulated by contemporary public art and for Ōtautahi Christchurch to be a city with a world-class collection of public art that is widely known and visited.

Ngā Whakararuraru Matua | Key Responsibilities

Based in Christchurch and reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will be the public face of SCAPE Public Art with the objective to continue raising the Trust’s profile, awareness, and visibility while leveraging your strong networks with corporates and individuals to support and then deliver inspirational public art seasons, projects and programmes.  You will oversee and lead the SCAPE Public Art team in the conceptualisation, research, planning, development, management and delivery of SCAPE Public Art Seasons to the highest industry standards.  You will also engage new audiences and patrons through the introduction of new works while maintaining focus on an impressive base of legacy pieces. Your responsibilities will include providing strategic and operational leadership, ensuring financial stability and cultivating a positive organisational culture where artistic endeavours can thrive.

To succeed in this role, you will be a strategic and innovative thinker with proven experience in senior leadership roles.  Your strong financial acumen and exceptional communication skills are essential as you build credible relationships with a range of stakeholders.  The successful candidate will showcase a track record of implementing strategic priorities, illustrating their ability to drive organisational goals forward.  Equally important is a proven history of successful engagement with community stakeholders, donor stewardship, and a commitment to building and sustaining meaningful relationships beyond the organisational boundaries.  We are seeking an inclusive and visionary leader with strong entrepreneurial skills who can forge an inspiring path ahead.
