Front of House Supervisor (Reception)

Part-time, Permanent (32 hours p/w or job-share)

 

The Arts House Trust (TAHT) is seeking a professional, detail-oriented and well-organized Front of House (Reception) Supervisor. The ideal candidate is a people person who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume visitor environment and has experience working as front-of-house in arts facilities, community centres, libraries, museums or volunteer organizations. 

 

Reporting to the Director, the Front of House Supervisor plays a crucial role in creating a positive experience for visitors and supporting the seamless functioning of our galleries and the Pah Homestead. The position also supports TAHT staff, including assisting the Marketing and Facilities Manager in oversight of the Gallery Shop, Pah Homestead and the Health & Safety of visitors.  

 

The successful candidate will have a passion for the arts, culture and people, demonstrating genuine enthusiasm for engaging with diverse audiences in a high-traffic environment. 

 

This is a permanent, part-time outward-facing position involving reception duties and a high degree of contact with daily visitors, general public, artists, stakeholders, volunteers and staff. This position is being offered on a part-time basis at 32 hours per week (Tues-Sat). We are also open to considering a job share arrangement for the right candidates (Tues-Sun). Flexible scheduling options may be discussed during the interview process to support work-life balance, while meeting business needs.

 

Art or GLAM sector experience, including competencies in MS Office and data entry preferable. Tertiary qualifications in Fine Arts, Art History and/or 2-4 years’ experience in a similar customer service role is preferable. This role would commence immediately, in place by mid-August.

  • Experience in front-of-house or reception roles 
  • Personable, helpful, and professional in your approach
  • Accurate, process-driven, and detail-oriented
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle challenges efficiently
  • Experience managing volunteers and interns helpful
  • Able to work collaboratively; a true team player
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • A passion for and understanding of contemporary art in Aotearoa
  • First Aid training is beneficial
  • Experience with conducting art tours for community groups a bonus
  • Must have legal eligibility to work in New Zealand
