We specialise in promoting shows (big, small, medium, weird, wonderful, local, international), and live performance booking throughout Aotearoa. We also deliver The Others Way Festival: Tāmaki Makaurau's quintessential and best loved multi-venue street party.
Banished Music is seeking an experienced and highly motivated General Manager to oversee all tour and agency operations as well as overseeing the delivery of the Others Way Festival.
The role is fulltime, and for a fixed 12 month contract to be reviewed and renewed.
We are looking for a superstar to jump in and take the reigns of our company to work alongside our director. It's a hefty role and we need someone who lives and breathes the live music industry with superior knowledge of the scene; minimum 5 years experience in anything and everything from production and tour advancing through to show budgets and settlements through to marketing strategy through to artist and agent negotiations.
The right person must have experience managing people, teams, contractors and working closely with artists.
The role is starting in February 2025 and remuneration will be based on experience and skill set.
We will aim to be interviewing/ shortlisting for the role as soon as the first week of February.
Key Responsibilities - Banished Music
- Manage all aspects of tour operations, including logistics, budgeting, and staffing.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the agency, including artist management and business development.
- Work closely with the company director and marketing/tour coordinator to ensure smooth and successful tours.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with artists, promoters, and venues.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements.
- Implement growth strategies to grow, adapt, and thrive in a highly competitive and tough industry
- Manage budgets and financial reporting.
- Oversee licensing and compliance with APRA.
- Knowledge of the Google Suite
Key Responsibilities - The Others Way
Venues and production:
- Coordinate with venues to confirm bookings, manage access, and arrange for setup and pack down.
- Negotiate venue contracts and ensure all parties adhere to the terms.
- Clarify and manage venue requirements, including access times, green room availability, and gear storage.
- Manage audio, lighting, and staging requirements across multiple venues.
- Source and liaise with external suppliers for DJ and PA gear rentals, as well as decorations.
- Work with sound engineers and technicians to ensure riders are met and equipment is functioning.
Licensing and Permits: - Work with local authorities to obtain necessary permits and licenses.
- Manage traffic management plans and ensure compliance with local regulations.
Health and Safety: - Develop and implement a comprehensive Health & Safety plan for the festival.
Stakeholder Communication: - Maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, including venue staff, artists, and local authorities.
Budget Management: - Manage budgets for technical production, venue hire, and other festival costs.
- Negotiate costs with suppliers and contractors.
Team Management - Work with the team and delegate tasks as appropriate.
Qualifications/ Skills required for the role:
- 5+ years of experience in the music industry, preferably in tour management or artist management.
- Proven leadership and management skills.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- Proven financial and budgeting expertise
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for music and the arts.
- Ability to travel domestically when required
- Is fanatical about detail, is methodical and doesn't miss a beat
- Tech-savvy and be able to learn new software quickly
Bonus Skills:
- Experience as a live booking agent
- Sponsorship experience and contacts
- Experience with event listing platforms (Eventfinda, Under The Radar, Facebook) and social media (Facebook, TikTok, Twitter and Instagram)
- Experience with Master Tour
- Knowledge of local council permitting processes
- Experience in traffic management and crowd safety
- Understanding of waste management and sustainability practices
