Join the Governance Committee at Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery Inc.

Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery is a vibrant, not-for-profit contemporary art gallery located in Titirangi, Tāmaki Makaurau. Dedicated to showcasing contemporary art that reflects the region’s diverse cultural landscape, Te Uru operates as an incorporated society and receives core funding from the Waitākere Ranges Local Board.

As we continue to grow and strengthen our governance, we are seeking two new members to join our Governance Committee: one General Member and a new Chair.

We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Māori advisory or cultural leadership
  • Legal
  • Fundraising

These areas of expertise are essential to complement the existing skills on the Board and will play a key role in supporting the gallery’s strategic direction and long-term sustainability.

 

Additional desirable skills include:

  • Strong networks within both the local and international art communities
  • Connections to art patrons and supporters
  • Fundraising experience
  • Expertise in marketing and public relations
  • Financial acumen and experience
  • People and culture leadership

We’re looking for individuals who:

  • Share a vision for the growth of Te Uru as Tāmaki Makaurau’s second-largest public art gallery
  • Understand the roles, responsibilities, and dynamics of effective governance
  • Are committed to advancing contemporary art in Aotearoa
  • Bring fresh perspectives and strategic insight to board discussions

 

About the Roles

We are seeking a Chair and a General Board Member to join Te Uru’s Governance Committee. These are voluntary, unpaid positions that offer a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the growth of contemporary art in Aotearoa.

  • Chair: Leads the Governance Committee, facilitates meetings, and works closely with the Gallery Director to ensure strong governance and strategic alignment.
  • Board Member: Contributes to the collective leadership and decision-making of the Committee, with a focus on their individual area of expertise.

All board members are expected to:

  • Adhere to the Te Uru Governance Constitution and Code of Conduct
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Te Uru’s Strategic Plan and support its implementation
  • Attend all scheduled board meetings or submit apologies in advance if unavailable
  • Review all materials provided in advance of meetings to ensure informed participation

Additional details:

  • The Governance Committee meets at least quarterly, holds an Annual General Meeting, and may schedule additional meetings for specific projects or initiatives
  • Board appointments are for a term of three years
  • All appointments must be ratified at the Annual General Meeting in September 2025
