Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery is seeking a talented and motivated Junior Graphic Designer to join our small and passionate team. This is a full time permanent position.

Located in scenic Titirangi, West Auckland, Te Uru is a contemporary art gallery dedicated to showcasing exceptional art that engages with local and global contexts. Through our exhibitions, public programmes, and educational initiatives, we serve as a vibrant hub for art, ideas, and community.

About the Role

As our in-house Designer, you will play a key role in shaping and elevating the gallery’s visual communications. This is a dynamic opportunity for an emerging design professional looking to make a meaningful contribution to the arts sector while developing their skills in a supportive environment.

Your work will span a wide range of projects, including the creation of promotional materials, exhibition graphics, print and digital publications, social media assets, and branded communications. You will be instrumental in ensuring a cohesive visual identity across all platforms and outputs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and produce engaging visual collateral for exhibitions, events, and gallery communications
  • Maintain and develop the gallery’s visual identity and brand consistency
  • Prepare high-quality, print-ready files and liaise with printers as required
  • Assist with the creation of digital campaigns and email marketing using Klaviyo or similar EDM tools
  • Collaborate closely with the gallery team to support communications, marketing, and programming initiatives

About You

We’re looking for a creative and detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills and a collaborative mindset. You’ll bring fresh ideas, strong visual literacy, and a passion for contemporary art and design.

You will ideally have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in design, communications, or marketing
  • A solid understanding of design principles, typography, colour theory, layout, and print production
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver)
  • Experience with EDM platforms (such as Klaviyo) and preparing content for both print and digital formats
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work across multiple projects and deadlines
  • A keen eye for detail and commitment to high-quality outcomes
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your creative ability across both print and digital media

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career to gain valuable experience within a highly respected contemporary arts organisation.
