Ko tā mātou mahi | The role   

Our team of Practice Advisers are experts in their art form and/or practice. The key focus of this portfolio is to lead CNZ’s engagement with the Visual Arts sector internationally and nationally. Craft and Object sectors, to provide strategic advice to CNZ on the direction and development of the that sector internationally and nationally, and to provide independent specialist knowledge of this artform to support CNZ’s funding, investment, strategic and corporate plans for positive change.  
 

While this role includes standard Lead Adviser competencies, a key accountability specific to this position is responsibility for delivery of CNZ’s commitments to the Venice Biennale in 2026 and out years, including supporting CNZ management, external relationship and stakeholder management, and some project management responsibilities, in partnership with CNZ’s delivery partners.  
 

The role will also contribute to advance strategic artform and practice insights in the international space.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring   

A strategic thinker, with excellent communication and relationship, partnership and stakeholder management skills, you will have extensive knowledge of the visual arts and craft/object sectors, as well as an understanding of the international market. Established and credible professional professional networks in these areas are a bonus.
 

With day-to-day responsibility for the Venice Biennale a core function of this position, you will have strong project management experience and the ability to manage both internal and external stakeholders, both here in Aotearoa and internationally.
 

Proven delivery experience in the arts/cultural sector, preferably involving high profile and/or international projects.
 

You will need an understanding of and respect for Tikanga Māori, along with an understanding of the principles and practice of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the implications of this for CNZ’s work.  A broad understanding of diverse cultures and other ways of working is important, along with possessing the skillset to apply a multi-lensed approach to your mahi.
