Manager Retail & Visitor Experience

TE URU – WAITAKERE CONTEMPORARY GALLERY

We are seeking a full time Manager Retail & Visitor Experience to join our small and dedicated team and build upon the visitor and retail experience at Te Uru.

Te Uru is a leading home for contemporary culture, a regional gallery locally rooted in West Auckland but globally minded. A destination gallery that opened in 2014 as part of the refurbished Lopdell Precinct, Te Uru is West Auckland’s leading contemporary gallery. Our vision is to provide a unique perspective that is both local and international. Our programmes reflect our place in Aotearoa and the wider Moana region while connecting new ideas and different practices with local and global networks. We recognise Māori as Tangata Whenua and foster the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi internally and externally to enhance and develop our programmes.

As our Manager Retail & Visitor Experience, you will lead the direction of our Gallery Shop. You will play an important role in building this vital revenue stream and enhancing the visitor experience at Te Uru.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, hardworking, team-player and a natural ‘people person’. This role is the friendly face of the gallery. We are seeking someone who is passionate about the latest trends in retail, aesthetics and display.

Tasks will include driving sales, stock management and procurement, visitor liaison, and managing our casual and volunteer staff. You will be working alongside the wider gallery team to deliver an exciting and diverse programme of exhibitions, classes, and engagement opportunities for the community.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Experience with Front of House and Retail work.
  • Proficiency using Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience using back-end website software – such as Shopify.
  • Excellent time management, and an ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • An understanding of, or desire to learn about art.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a positive and productive team.
