Marketing Coordinator Job Description (PFT)

Job title: Marketing Coordinator

Reports to: General Manager

Contract: Permanent Full Time - 40 hours/week. Ability to work evening and weekend events when reasonably requested. 

Salary: up to $63,000/yr, commensurate with experience.

Purpose of the role:

The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the promotion of Howick Historical Village through all channels including media, advertising, and internet, taking responsibility of the organisation’s profile and social media presence across multiple platforms. 

 

The role is accountable for the concept, development, and implementation of HHV’s marketing plans and budgets, and responsible for managing and promoting the Village’s brand value, image, and product. You will grow our social media content with quality, on-brand, relevant content creation, and editing of written, video, and photo content. 

 

Measurable outcomes: 

You will create results-driven marketing and social media strategies that aligns with our Strategic Plan, with the following measurable outcomes: 

  • Provide continuity with our current, strong 2024 Marketing Plan across our institution-wide brand, image, and products;
  • Increase our engagement and directly impact our visitor numbers;
  • Increase our followers for all social media;
  • Remain on brand;
  • Create interesting and dynamic content; and 
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Follow the current Marketing Plan and maintain the current high-level promotional and branding strategies for HHV with an eye toward a seamless, natural evolution in design/marketing.
  • Produce detailed plans to implement and measure the performance and effectiveness of the current Marketing Plan, in line with organisational objectives.
  • Manage marketing and communications budget to ensure HHV secures best value in all purchasing decisions.
  • Ensure consistent use and application, across all materials and signage – internally and externally – of the established brand strategy for the Village. 
  • Manage HHV’s PR activity: building appropriate relationships with key media partners and structuring plans to ensure the widest propagation of the Village and its story.
  • Champion the use, management, and monitoring of digital media to include HHV website on all relevant social media.
  • Ensure the HHV website is kept up-to-date across design, content, and functionality, including SEO optimisation (organic and paid) and user experience/user interface.
  • Be knowledgeable in HHV’s market context. Measure٫ record٫ and monitor SEO, and follow trends that may positively influence the Village and attraction of visitors.
  • Create, coordinate, execute day-to-day content, including copywriting, photography and posting to HHV’s social media channels.
  • Facilitate and engage in online conversations with customers٫ including responding to queries or questions from clients.
  • Suggest and research new ways to attract or engage customers٫ including promotions٫ competitions٫ or other methods.
  • Liaising with department managers on upcoming events, visitor experiences, etc.
  • Maintain weekly staff schedule maintenance on community whiteboard.
  • Working with HDHS to provide marketing materials and/or signage for other heritage sites, on occasion. 
  • Produce the monthly HHV newsletter.
  • Ability to work on promotional displays within the Village or community partners.

 

Other duties may be required from time to time as required by the General Manager. We are a small team, so flexibility within the role is a must.

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience understanding and applying principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and honouring the Treaty of Waitangi particularly in sharing stories and information connected to Māori culture and heritage.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in marketing, communications, or digital media required. Please apply even if you do not have this degree, but can prove relevant work experience.
  • At least 1 year experience in digital marketing with preference for Social Media Coordinator experience.
  • Experience in managing paid media campaigns.
  • Ability to deliver unique and engaging social media content.
  • Proven experience using:
    • Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro etc), and Canva;
    • Squarespace, Hootsuite, LinkTree, MailChimp, Eventfinda, and a scheduling tool like Later; and 
    • social media channels including Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Insta, LinkedIn.
  • Experience in content creation skills in photography and video, preferable.
  • Experience in copy-writing and content development for social audiences and SEO.
  • Experience dealing with the public and media.
  • Proven relevant experience with branding.
  • Budget management responsibilities.
  • Experience with, and interest in, museums, historic properties, or heritage sites, preferable.
