The Music Director is our leader of programme and performance. S/he designs, develops, manages and evaluates musical direction, manages a tutor team, and ensures that a visionary, high-quality music programme is delivered in accordance with our values and the aspirations of our community. The role involves leading and conducting rehearsals and concerts, instrumental tuition, ensemble leadership, singing and working with tamariki and rangatahi of any age.  A Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent is a prerequisite. S/he will be an experienced tutor/teacher of music and leader of musicianship.  

 

Our vision is to include tamariki, whānau and communities through orchestral music-making.  Our mission is to provide barrier-free, inclusive tuition and performance opportunities. 

 

The role is located at Ōtara Music and Arts Centre (OMAC) in Auckland, and any venue where Sistema Aotearoa activity takes place, including partner schools, ECE centres, performance venues and other places.  The role reports to the General Manager, and connects to the community and cultures of South Auckland.  

 

The Music Director must be able to work alongside others (kotahitanga), shape the quality of learning and musical progress, and participate in professional learning.  We offer support in partnership with national and city orchestras and ensembles. The role is varied, stimulating, and connected. 

 

Remuneration is negotiable, in the range $90,000 - $110,000 p.a + benefits.
