Calling all creatives!

We’re incredibly excited to announce that Auckland Live is partnering for the second year in a row with The Hannah to support the development of a brand-new Aotearoa production for 2026–2027.

Have a show that’s stuck at a standstill, ready for early development, or polishing up to premiere? This opportunity includes in-kind venue use of The Hannah Playhouse alongside production support from Auckland Live, with the intention of building long-term relationships across Wellington and Auckland. We’re looking for bold ideas, fresh voices, and work with the potential to grow new communities in both cities.

Is this you? Or someone you know?

The Hannah is a home for professional performing arts creatives to develop and present original works of impact and/or scale. The theatre and performance lab model primarily aims to support the creation of innovative works that amplify Te Whanganui-a-Tara's creative impact and support the careers of our arts practitioners; encouraging artists and audiences alike to arrive curious.

Auckland Live is the beating heart of live performance and engagement in Tāmaki Makaurau. Alongside programming multiple venues and festivals, Auckland Live invests in new work from independent artists across the motu that enrich audiences in our largest city to create memories that last a lifetime.

The Hannah and Auckland Live are thrilled to come together to provide the space and time for a new work in development to make waves. This opportunity includes in-kind venue use of the Hannah Playhouse alongside production support from Auckland Live for the period 2026-2027. The offer is best suited to a primarily Wellington-based collective with an interest in building new communities in Auckland and Wellington; it is the start of a long-term relationship between all parties and across cities.

In-kind use of the Hannah includes:

  • 2-3 periods of development in the auditorium, may include public showings
  • Use of house technical inventory – see The Hannah Venue Rider, downloadable on our website: https://www.hannahplayhouse.org.nz/utilising-the-hannah
  • Support of the Venue Technician, as required in production schedule
  • Support of the General Manager for future planning
  • If applicable: Auditorium (243 seats in end-on with balcony, flexible to new arrangements) with technical inventory for premiere season in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington

Support from Auckland Live includes:

  • Financial support for the development process, negotiated on a project basis
  • Support of a Creative Producer for future planning
  • Support of the wider Auckland Live staff and resources if applicable to your development process e.g. marketing or ticketing teams
  • If applicable: Venue (various options) for a premiere season in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
