Together with Creative New Zealand, we’re excited to announce a 12-week Pasifika artist residency in Palmerston North.  We're inviting you to express your unique artistry and Pasifika heritage in your own way.

Applicants from the Horizons Manawatu-Whanganui region are encouraged to apply as the funding can be used to help with travel and accommodation needs. Regional artists from outside the city can work from their own space but are required to showcase and exhibit their art in Palmerston North during the residency.

The artists-in-residence will be awarded a $20,000 stipend to support the following:

  • to work towards providing an Exhibition/Performance at the end of the 12-week residence in Palmerston North.
  • accommodation and travel costs, if required, to complete the exhibition work in Palmerston North.
  • to encourage innovation in artistic practice and provide a supportive environment for the artist-in-residence to focus on their own arts practice.
  • to facilitate community participation in the arts and provide an opportunity for local artists to benefit from the expertise of the artist-in-residence.
  • to strengthen the networks between the Manawatū arts community, Pasifika artists and the wider Palmerston North community.
  • to see growth and expansion of the artist/s networks, connections and strengthening existing ones in the region.
  • to complete a final feedback report at the end of the residency.

An additional $5000 is available to support your exhibition or performance costs, and for the support of an artist mentor(s).

If you're keen to apply, please click - Pasifika artist in residence | Palmerston North City Council.  Applications close at 4pm on Tuesday 3 June 2025.
