As Senior Educator, you'll take the lead in delivering exceptional, hands-on education programmes that connect students and communities to Southland's rich history, heritage, and cultural narratives.

 

What you'll do:

  • Plan, develop, and deliver engaging physical and digital education programmes aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum, including Early Childhood Education.
  • Champion the Enriching Local Curriculum (ELC) programme, delivering high-quality learning experiences to schools and community groups.
  • Lead education outreach initiatives and school holiday programmes that extend beyond the museum walls.
  • Build strong relationships with local schools, kura, community groups, and mana whenua to ensure our learning opportunities are inclusive, accessible, and relevant.
  • Support interpretation of the collection through curriculum-aligned programming, contributing to our wider visitor experience.
  • Collaborate across museum and Council teams to enhance strategy, improve services, and deliver high-impact projects.

 

What you'll bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (essential).
  • A minimum of five years' experience in curriculum-based teaching, with a strong grasp of the New Zealand Curriculum.
  • A genuine passion for learning, heritage, and bicultural engagement.
  • A track record of designing and delivering high-quality, inclusive education programmes.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and planning skills.
  • A full NZ driver's licence and ability to meet Children's Worker requirements under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.

This is a permanent full-time position working 40 hours per week, between the hours of 8.00am - 5.00pm Monday - Friday, both days inclusive.

 

Invercargill City Council is committed to the safety of children, the elderly, and vulnerable adults. As this position involves working with these groups, Police Vetting (under the Children's Act 2014) and a pre-employment drug and alcohol test are required to ensure a safe environment for all.
