Te Tipu O Te Māhuri is a 12-week kaupapa Māori workplace training program in Art Gallery Curation, Administration and Events based at Toi Matarau Gallery. 

Toi Matarau is a summit for multidisciplinary arts where Māori and Indigenous artists gather, collaborate, are inspired, and are supported. Thought has been given to enriching visitors' experiences of sharing in the mauri of taonga tuku iho.

Toi Matarau Gallery is located in the Māoriland Hub in the heart of Ōtaki village. It is the front face of Māoriland – presenter of the Māoriland Film Festival and home to Māoriland Films.

During this programme you will

  • Develop technical and creative skills in your chosen pathway. 
  • Become part of a collaborative and supportive cohort of Māori creative professionals 
  • Gain essential skills to pathway you into employment or further training.
  • Be paid while attending the course. 

Delivered in a kaupapa, tikanga Māori creative environment at the Māoriland Hub.

Location:  Māoriland Hub, 68 Main Street Ōtaki
Hours:  930 am - 5 pm Tuesday - Friday Daily
Tauira must attend to pass

Mahi Whakatairanga

  • Limited spots available for Māori aged 17+
  • You must commit to a 12 Week full-time course (30 hours Tuesday – Friday) at the Māoriland Hub in Ōtaki.
  • The course is fees-free. 

He Kōwhiri Tāngata – Selection Criteria

He mahi tēnei e hihiko ai te wairua auaha o ngā tauira ako e whakapuare nei i ō rātou hinengaro. E riro ana ngā mahinga nei ki ngā tāngata he piri pono nō rātou ki tā rātou e whai ai, e kī ai.  

You need to be committed and self-motivated. You don’t need to have prior experience but you do need to show us your strong interest in trying new things creatively.  

Te Tipu o Te Māhuri is a Māori Trades Training Program. You must be Māori to qualify for a placement.
