We're looking for a dynamic and experienced Team Leader - Operations and Visitor Services to join our Museum and Heritage Services team and play a key role in delivering an inclusive, welcoming, and well-managed museum environment.

 

This is a unique opportunity to be part of something truly special as we prepare for the opening of Te Unua, a new world-class museum in Invercargill.

 

As Team Leader - Operations and Visitor Services, you'll be responsible for ensuring a high-quality, seamless visitor experience every day. You'll oversee front-of-house operations, coordinate facilities management, lead a small team, and champion inclusive service delivery. This position also contributes to the strategic direction of the museum and supports key projects, including the development of Te Unua.

 

What you'll do:

  • Lead, coach, and support front-of-house staff and volunteers to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Manage day-to-day museum operations including health and safety, rostering, facilities upkeep, and visitor support services.
  • Ensure the museum is a safe, accessible, and inclusive space for all visitors.
  • Oversee public-facing systems such as reception, enquiries, ticketing, and point-of-sale.
  • Support digital engagement and continuous service improvement through visitor feedback and data insights.
  • Contribute operational expertise to the development of Te Unua and other strategic projects.
  • Manage contractors and suppliers to ensure excellent building and facilities services.

 

What you will bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a visitor-facing or facilities management role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination skills.
  • Passion for arts, culture, and heritage - and their role in community life.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and accessibility best practice in public facilities.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, including an understanding of bicultural values and te ao Māori.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills - able to juggle priorities in a busy public environment.

This is a permanent full-time position working 40 hours per week, between the hours of 8.00am - 5.00pm Monday - Friday, both days inclusive.
