Contemporary HUM

Organisation

History

Member for
5 years 8 months

Launched in 2016, Contemporary HUM is a forum generating critical discussion of Aotearoa New Zealand visual arts presented overseas. HUM is the only platform dedicated to the international activity of creative practitioners from New Zealand who are working or living abroad.

Our primary work takes the form of an online publication which fosters the development of rigorous and critical writing and thinking. We commission international writers, curators and artists to respond and review projects around the world in order to highlight the diversity of New Zealand’s contribution in the global arts landscape, act as a catalyst for critical discourse and generate new relationships and opportunities for our artists.

HUM’s Calendar page is an expanded space charting the wide spectrum of projects happening abroad, so you can follow who is doing what, when and where, no matter where you are based. In parallel to our online contributions, we also cultivate debate and visibility by initiating partnerships and events, such as public panel discussions.
