A multi-city campaign is underway to recruit artists to the 2010 Dunedin Fringe Festival with artist meetings to be held in Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington. Festival Director, Paul Smith, said this is the first time meetings have been held in all three centres for the Festival which runs from 18-28 March next year.
The Dunedin Fringe Festival is an open-access Festival focussed on contemporary and experimental performance and art events self-produced by participating artists. Over half the acts in 2009 were from outside Dunedin. The 2009 Dunedin Fringe featured 250 artists who presented 50 events over 11 days to an audience of over 10,000.
Participating artists can apply for a venue and funding from the Festival as part of the registration process. Funding is available for New Zealand artists to develop new work or to tour a show to Dunedin. Key venues include the Fortune Theatre, the Globe Theatre, Allen Hall Theatre, and the Festival’s Comedy Club venue, the XII Below lounge bar.
Funding and venue applications are due on 6 November and the final date to register for the Festival is 27 November this year. Registration information can be downloaded from www.dunedinfringe.org.nz.
