Local artists and illustrators express their wild side in an animal themed group exhibition opening on Wednesday the 23rd of September at Pixel Ink Gallery.

The exhibition titled ‘Animalia’ features original artworks inspired by the Animal Kingdom.

Dogs, cats, sea horses, leopards, crocodiles, insects, pelicans, herons, elephants, snakes, rabbits and eagles are among the inventory of this art menagerie.

“There is a good mix of creatures with some artworks featuring human counterparts in figurative, abstract or surrealist styles,” says gallery director Rosalind Clark.

Clark said artists were free to create works within their medium of choice.

The artworks exhibited include oil, acrylic, photographic, aerosol, pencil and watercolour.

“Artworks range from the cute and cuddly to the bizarre and obscure – a ruckus of beasts with creatures great and small – powerful and enchanting,” says Clark.

Artists nationwide were invited to submit artworks for the group exhibition.

Ten Wellington artists and one Dunedin artist will show their works created for the show.

Animalia is the third group exhibition at Pixel Ink Gallery.
