Waikato Museum and ArtsPost visitors will be able to experience the sights and sounds of war during an Anzac Day programme on Sunday 25 April.

Running from 10am-3pm, the programme will include an 11am performance by an Anzac Choir at the museum’s Marae Atea. An all-male ensemble made up of students from five Hamilton High Schools, the Anzac Choir will recreate the music and spoken word of the 28th Maori Battalion.

Waikato Museum director Kate Vusoniwailala said the performance “will be something very special for visitors to experience on Anzac Day”.

At 1.30pm at ArtsPost artists Lisa Voigt and Pippa Russell will be speaking about the collaborative exhibition ‘Echoes of War’, which is currently on display at the gallery until 3 May.

Described as an exhibition that “highlights other perspectives and experiences of war that both artists believe are important considerations”, Echoes of War incorporates artworks created by local artists that provide their own view or image of war displayed on the shape of a gun.

During the Artist Talk Voigt and Russell will speak about their own works and the inspiration behind them.

Free children’s activities will also be held at Waikato Museum throughout the day.
