On a clear day in Auckland if standing on the steps of the War Memorial Museum or the summit of Mt Eden, look north and see on the distant horizon a double peak. This is Tamahunga, Matakana's iconic mountain.
Come on, let's go there! An hour's drive North of Auckland, head east at Warkworth, then 2 kms from the Matakana Village turn right into Takatu Road, at the Omaha Flats roundabout stay right then enter the first road on the right. This is Whitmore Road.
Whitmore Road on the Takatu/Tawharanui Peninsula is a 5 kms no exit road with awesome coastal views, neat vineyards, olive groves, native bush, undulating pasturelands and an idyllic family beach at the end. Jeannette Switzer's Silver Jewellery & Art Studio is also here with a showcase of original, handmade sterling silver jewellery and contemporary art inspired by plant and coastal themes. The Art In Paradise Exhibition features an extention of these topics with the inclusion of copper, blackening and enamelling accents with the sterling silver jewellery. It is a celebration of the environment, lifestyle, pleasure, ambition and fulfilment.
Art In Paradise Exhibition is an event included in Matakana in May, Celebrating the Harvest.
