(launched 11 March 03) will now be able to readily access a vast range of new online facilities.The site has a new look, address and a wealth of new information. The showcase of the site is the online collections. Visitors will be able to search and browse the Gallery's collections of over 12,500 works of art. This is a first for any public art gallery in New Zealand and one of relatively few worldwide.

The collections can be searched by artist, medium, title, subject, theme or date. Quick search, detailed search and highlights are also featured online, along with 9,000 images - where the Gallery has been able to secure copyright clearance - with more coming online every day.

The development of the online collection has been a significant undertaking, involving photographers, registrars, librarians, cataloguers and curators, who have been working on the project for almost two years.

Go behind the scenes and meet the team behind the exhibitions. Discover the history of the gallery. Become a volunteer or a Friend of the Gallery. For schools, there are details of the education programme plus downloadable booking forms.

For the kids there is Arty Marty and his fun sheets, for use in the Gallery and at home. Gallery newsletters, artists' archives and interactive modules will also be available online in the future.

And of course, detailed information on exhibitions at the Main and New Gallery, public programmes and kids workshops continue to be readily accessible.
