Telling Tales features the work of Auckland artists Jake Hope, EDMO! and thisisrabbit, is presented by Makeshift - a collaborative group of artists and designers who aim to promote the local arts in a way that is both inclusive and fun.EDMO! (Eddie Dawn-McCurdy) was nominated for last year's Best Debut at the New Zealand Comic Awards. Artist Steven Lyons, exhibiting as thisisrabbit, was named a finalist in New Zealand's two leading graduate design awards last year, the BeST Awards in the Student category and the Panprint Design Ambassador Award.

In the last year or so you may very well have been to a concert, read a magazine, seen a poster, or put on a t-shirt that was made by Makeshift. The collaborative started in 2006 and has since been finding new and different ways of bringing people together to celebrate art and music within New Zealand.

Makeshift's primary medium for this is Makeshift Magazine, a contributor-based publication that showcases new work from fresh local artists. The magazine seeks to question, entertain, and put a smile on people's faces. Makeshift offers new and up-and-coming writers, artists and designers the opportunity to be exposed to a new audience, and gives readers the opportunity to see what their community has to offer.

The content accepted from contributors is diverse, including writing, design, photography, illustration, poetry, and just about anything else that can be printed on a page.

This event is Makeshift's first foray into putting on an exhibition and they look forward to producing more in the future and helping to get even more artists' work out there and seen.

"It's great to be a part of something that is always changing and evolving," Steven Lyons says. "We are looking forward to growing and getting more of people's work seen and interacted with."
