Deb Filler, also known as Aotearoa's only Jewish comic, is home stomping the ground in February to deliver a heart-warming evening of cheeky humour, songs and stories. Choc-full of tall tales and true, a bust-your-arse night of musical/comedy/hilarity.
From the homegrown consummate entertainer and character actor who brought us 'Punch Me in the Stomach' and 'Filler Up!' where she baked a loaf of bread and shared it with the audience, Deb is back for two shows at the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival, Feb 18 and 19th with a light hearted and what critics call a "do-not-miss evening" that has brought audiences from Nelson to New York to their feet, calling for more.
The NZ Herald has said, "...she delivers explosively funny punch-lines...she melts the heart of the stoniest critic...to miss her would be madness...knockout humour."
The Independent of London has said, "Filler is a complete chameleon, transforming herself instantly into dozens of relatives and accents ... exhilarating and liberating."
The Sydney Morning Herald said, "Apart from her warm and confident connection with the audience, Filler's great skill is her characterizations…she is a brilliant observer."
The show covers classic Jewish humour, her hilarious Jewish rellies, her life in New York as a singing waitress in a rat infested restaurant, life on the road as a solo performer and characters such as the beloved well meaning but narcissistic deep voiced Vippy Feldman from Long Island, Charlotte von Rottenberg, the 'wideo installation artiste" from Berlin whose work she acknowledges herself, has created an "ABSOLUTE FUHRER, in za worlt off wideo." After a year on the international road, Deb is coming home. Hooray for Hamiltonians.
