Downstage is seeking partnerships between a variety of practitioners and creative collaborators, independent producers and companies. We are looking for the talented, the hungry and the driven, the lesser known and the gifted, the emerging practitioner or senior artist who believe the only limit to what's possible is expansive and imaginative thinking.
We anticipate that you are working professionally in the performing arts, have a broad knowledge of New Zealand theatrical culture and a good understanding of where Downstage Theatre sits within this culture. We also anticipate that you are submitting a proposal with us, our interests and the Hannah Playhouse as a venue, in mind.
"Working professionally" means you have had at least one professional production of your work or are recognised as professional by the industry at large. Professional productions may encompass work staged in a variety of contexts (e.g. main stage, circus, youth and cabaret).
Your proposal must demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of theatre. We do not accept unsolicited scripts or focus on the development of new writers but support this activity through agencies such as Playmarket. Play readings and educational activities do not constitute a professional production.
To make a "compelling case", together we must imagine the next step.
This is what you need to do! - visit for detailed information on submission proposals.
