Waikato artist Lisa Benson will open an exhibition of her latest work at Wintec’s RAMP Gallery on Wednesday April 29.

The exhibition entitled “Still” promises to be a dynamic installation, following on from her award winning work that has appeared and disappeared in galleries throughout New Zealand, Australasia and Europe.

Lisa has recently returned from Bosnia and Herzegovina where she was invited to exhibit with Nine Dragon Heads at The Sarajevo Winter Festival, where multiple venues throughout the city were activated with photographic drawings and conversational performances. 

The work follows the themes she has pursued over the past several years, “drawing has become an experiment in materiality, and a way for me to examine time and the perception of visual phenomena.”

While the details of “Still” will not be revealed until the opening event, Lisa says, “I’m Still on about the same stuff, there will be Still-moving images in the show, I’m Still working on the drawings for the opening performance and

I’m wondering if the carver will be using a STIHL chainsaw?”

Lisa graduated with a Master of fine Arts from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2000 and has lectured in Wintec’s School of Media Arts since 1999.  This is her first major show in Hamilton for many years.

“Still” exhibition will run until May 20th.  Entrance is free and the launch event is open to all.
