The film was written by Bronwyn Tainui and directed by Rosemary Riddell, and was shot entirely in Dunedin by cinematographer Scott Mouat.

Producer Mike Riddell said it was a great honour to make it into the finals of the Moondance festival.

"It is a tribute to the team who worked so diligently on the project," he said. He paid tribute to the assistance of NHNZ in assisting through their facilities.

Not all films that make the finalists list are selected for screening, but Riddell is hopeful that Cake Tin will make it through.

The festival describes itself as "one of the premier venues for the exhibition and promotion of feature and short films in the US, and one of the leading indie film festivals in the world". It runs from 7-9 September at Universal Studios in Hollywood.
