Media Statement: New Zealand String Quartet
Elizabeth Kerr has resigned from her position as Manager of the New Zealand String Quartet after five years at the helm of one of New Zealand’s pre-eminent arts organisations.
She will remain with the Trust until April 2012 to assist with the transition to the new Manager and manage two major projects: the international mini-festival at Kings Place in London in March 2012 and the launch of a special concert series to mark the Quartet’s 25th anniversary in 2012.
Trust chair Professor Gary Hawke said the board had accepted her resignation with deep regret and its best wishes.
“Elizabeth has worked tirelessly for five years with the String Quartet. Under her stewardship, the New Zealand String Quartet’s profile and reputation has grown domestically and internationally.
“She has supported the Quartet in opening up international markets, including the United Kingdom and Europe. The New Zealand String Quartet is about to go on a nine concert tour of the United Kingdom, followed by a nine concert tour of Canada.
“Elizabeth has also provided an environment in which the Quartet can flourish artistically and professionally, working with the musicians on opportunities for cross-artform collaborations, implementing an on-line marketing strategy and generally building the capability and sustainability of the Trust through strong relationships and a clear vision.”
Elizabeth Kerr said: “It's been a privilege to facilitate the work of this outstanding ensemble. We are fortunate to have such great cultural ambassadors. I leave knowing that their commitment, talent and hard work will take them to even greater musical heights.”
The Trust will be undertaking recruitment for the Manager role immediately to ensure the Quartet maintains the strong artistic standards and profile that Elizabeth has developed and sustained. It is hoped the new Manager will take up the role in late August or early September.
