Huffer clothing was formed in New Zealand in 1997 by Steve Dunstan, a retail working snow surfer, and Dan Buckley, a skateboarding design school student.
The two came together to build a brand that today has a depth of three ranges (consisting of 150 garment styles - redeveloped annually), which is distributed in Japan, Europe, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.Huffer represents a new aesthetic for sportswear. They pride themselves on being known as "board sports inspired fashion" and on having a design style that is created with functionality in mind. For example, their "function" range of waterproof breathable outerwear.
This lies quite far removed from the high fashion world of Air New Zealand Fashion Week but in this lies Huffer's strength. The fashionably designed pieces in their "collection" range is in turn influenced by the brand's production of some highly technical pieces, as well as some Bondi Beach trash fashion experimentation and Auckland City beautiful ugly awkwardness, of course.
Huffer's experimentation as a brand travels across its 3 ranges:
F u n c t I o n : "purpose built snowboarding styles, created with function in mind - "
C o l l e c t I o n : "experimentation, fashion, out of control newness!"
C o l o u r : "classic simple solid styles - sweatshirting, tees, denim and drill - reinterpreted seasonally in a different colour palette" Huffer is now.
