Fringe shorts hit the NZ International Film Festival

2007 marks the 20th Wellington Fringe Film Festival - "the most important festival for emerging film-makers in New Zealand" according to director Robert Sarkies. 2007 marks the 20th Wellington Fringe Film Festival - "the most important festival for emerging film-makers in New Zealand" according to director Robert Sarkies.Originally devised to run alongside the NZ International Film Festival, this year the Fringe is proud to have its own session in the event - Fringe Festival Shorts, which will show nine films from their history file at the NZ Film Archive.

"Our selection provides a retrospective look at an eclectic mix from some of our more innovative filmmakers who made these films as emerging directors," says Glenis Giles, who has been involved with the Fringe for 18 years.

The films to be featured are Robert Sarkies' Dream Makers; Glen Standring's Lenny Minute; Bill Toepfer's Walk Short, with Don McGlashan and Harry Sinclair; Sweetness by Rachel Davies; Greg Page's animated film Decaff; the 12-minute one-shot classic Permanent Wave; Sima Urale's O Tamaiti, which won Best Short Film at the NZ and Venice Film Festivals; Sally Rodwell's Shoes and Tom Reilly's animation Man With Issues.
