This sand sculpture of Veronica Maser's titled Bedded in Sand won an award at the Hokitika Driftwood and Sand Festival as part of the Summer Arts Festival Artzfeva. Hokitika Beach was last week the busiest outdoor gallery in the South Island with over 70 entries in the competition with a huge variety of sculpture. As well as masses of interesting driftwood the stones on Hokitika beach are some of the most beautiful smooth ovals of schist - just seeping out of the sand so the locals have lots of great resources to work with. Thanks to Donald Buglass for flying me down, was a lovely time...Cheers to you all.
PS: Read on for Penny Ashton's account of the Hokitika Summer Arts Festival Artzfeva. That girl certainly knows how to rock the Regent Theatre in Hokitika all on her ownsome.
