Guenole works and produces paintings inspired by Tongan art and culture, as well as drawing upon contemporary issues. Her work has developed through her own explorations of landscape and figurative subjects since 1997. Painting and working creatively must be viewed within the cultural context in which it is created and that which the painter exists. Art is based on experiences and opportunity to practice it, there is no objective truth only our experiences which colour and perceive ourselves and our environment.

This body of work uses Pacific iconography and symbols; combined with traditional universal imageries. Tapa or ngatu as it is called in Tonga has always been a source of inspiration; both as a record of social and political history and for its beauty and value. Traditional Pacific images are inherently layered with meanings and references to the rituals of its society; it is some of these many layers explored here in this exhibition "Inasi-first fruit".
