Continuing JAAM's 'open-door' approach, issue 24 contains the usual mix of well-known and new voices.Work by better-known writers in this issue includes poems by Robert Sullivan, Jessica Le Bas, Mark Pirie and Jennifer Compton and Jack Ross, stories by Tim Jones and Julian Novitz, and an essay by L E Scott.
There's also some strong and original work by upcoming writers such as Julie Hill, Vana Manasiadis, James O'Sullivan and Lora Mountjoy.
This issue also includes photographs by Tim Beverstock and drawings by Karen Hester.
JAAM 24 was edited by Clare Needham and Helen Rickerby, both founding members of the JAAM collective, which publishes the 12-year-old journal.
Clare, who selected the prose work for the issue, says she found the work she chose fell into two categories: stories and games.
"The stories have strong plots, distinctive narrative voices and generous servings of humour both sunny and dark. The games ask you to actively engage to release their hidden pleasures."
Most of the poets are represented by more than one poem each, Helen explains, because she had become interested in how poems in a group or collection can work with each other, resonating and linking, making them stronger than they are by themselves.
JAAM 24 is available from good bookshops or by subscription.
