Jam Radio hit the web waves in June this year and has gone from strength to strength with its unique brand of inclusiveness. The online radio station is situated within the multidisciplinary Depot Artspace in Devonport. Radio programmes on arts, literature, music and events are crafted by volunteers either in the studio or out in the community, with support and encouragement from the station staff. They are then made available for on-demand streaming at the Jam Radio website.Jam has been running since the start of June, and the number of programmes built up to such a degree that a new site was needed in order to effectively categorise and archive the programmes that have been produced over the last half year.
What's now available is a radio resource site comprising of nearly a hundred programmes, all made by Aucklanders. It's a fitting way to round up this year's melding of industrious creativity, innovation and fine sounds - the welcoming little Jam Radio pit has been home to many with a passion to get started in radio, and the future of sound media.
The website itself is the product of artwork by Rob Tucker, New Zealand's first visual arts apprentice, and web designer Paul Walsh, a street and graphic artist. The last upload for the year has just been added - a tasty collection to be lingered over during the holiday period before the radio folks return in mid-January.
