Late Lounge with Good Laika

26 May 2010
Like its ill-fated name-sake Laika, the first dog in space and Russian national hero, Good Laika

Join us  at TheNewDowse for another relaxing Late Lounge, this time with Wellington band Good Laika, Thursday 3 June, 7-9pm.  All galleries, shopette, bar and café open til late.

Like its ill-fated name-sake Laika, the first dog in space and Russian national hero, Good Laika members Robin Hinkley, Jason Fa'afoi, Matthew Armitage, Ricky Boyd and Nic Marshall say their band “invokes pictures of bitter irony, grim humour and passionate ambition”.  Of their 2009 album, Gary Steel, Tone/Metro said  “In short, Followed By A Trail Of Sparks is one of the best locally made albums I've heard all year, and despite it not being a genre that I generally subscribe to, I've found it drifting back onto my playlist, which is high praise indeed.”

Each of the musicians have had successful musical careers with other bands. Robin fronted the band Bleakhouse; accomplished actor and raconteur Jason played guitar in The Stereo Bus (not to mention national fame on TV show What Now); multi-instrumentalist Matthew lent his guitar playing skill to garage-funk outfit Odessa; Ricky kept time for the Accelerants and led the notorious '50s rock n' rhythm Boom Shack sessions; and Nic played with arts festival stalwarts, musical collective Verona.
