The Papakura Art Gallery is inviting artists and visitors alike to make their mark on the gallery walls to celebrate the closure of the gallery for major renovations.
On Monday 11 – Wednesday 13 January 2010, from 9 – 5pm each day, the gallery will be open and visitors and artist will have creative licence on what they create.
Visitors and artists are advised to bring your acrylic paints (no oils), brushes, pens, pencils and creativity to the gallery and create a master piece.
Gallery Manager Emma Millynn was inspired by the Auckland Art Gallery - Friends of the Gallery who created a similar project to raise funds for their acquisitions fund.
“While not a fundraising venture, we will be using Make Your Mark as an opportunity for artists and visitors to come in and have some fun, and learn a few tricks off other artists," says Emma.
The artworks will then be entombed in the gallery walls with new insulation and wall linings going over pieces.
The gallery will re-open in April 2010 with an exciting but yet to be released line up of exhibitions. Information will be out in the New Year to members of our database. If you would like to be added to our database email the gallery gallery@papakuraarts.co.nz.
