A solo exhibition by Catherine Manchester called Visitation Pixallation Wellington.18th Jan-23rd Jan

This exhibition was inspired by an incidence of wild and windy weather one Wellington night when the TV offered up pixallations that spluttered across the screen. The pixallations kept appearing with their wild distortions of people and faces. These pixallations provided an alternative way of looking at the world .They were actually based on images of real people and situations often from news reports including news on covid..I brought associations of my own as I painted them as well. They are my weird gift from the wind to the wire.
I ran to get my cellphone to photograph them and with about 30 images collected I spent the next year or so just looking at them ,imagining them as paintings. I doodled over some of them or kept them as they were .The first from the series I painted was in 2019.It was published on Art New Zealand facebook page from my show this year in Àuckland .
The exhibition of pixallated inspired paintings will be my first exhibition in Wellington for six years. In the last 15 months I had been living in Laingholm, a seaside settlement near Titirangi. It was a perfect place to set up a studio and paint ,and in between lockdowns I worked in film and had time to start a novel.I returned to our home of 24 years in Ngaio in June this year to my much bigger studio to paint some of the large pieces in this show.
In 2018 I was a greater Wellington regional art finalist.
Opening event Tuesday 18th January 5.30pm with music by Art Ghetto .
