Retrieval and Stories in the Soil

This year Hamilton celebrates the 'year of the New Zealand play' with the inaugural performances of plays from two Hamilton debutante playwrights: Stories in the Soil and Retrieval play at the Meteor (Number 1 Victoria Street) Thursday 2nd - Saturday 4th and Thursday 9th - Saturday 11th October.
The two plays explore the way in which the human condition resolves pain from the past.

In the first offering, Retrieval, an archaeologist uncovers more than he anticipated when he discovers human remains. During the space of one night, he encounters some unexpected visitors, who urge him toward a reassessment of his own identity via a reluctant excavation of his past.

Stories in the Soil - through comedy and drama - explores the pain of the past and the path that creates it. As three friends struggle to make their lives more interesting, a keen but inept theatre director happens upon the idea of creating a play. His friends are drawn in against their wills and better judgment and the project unfolds in unpredictable ways. Their trials force the trio to make their peace with each other and the past.

Nick Clothier and Fiona Martin have both been heavily involved in the local theatre scene. Both graduates from the University of Waikato, they have been involved in Slip of the Tongue and - more recently - Cunning Plan.
