Art just got a whole lot more elegant in downtown Auckland with the opening this Thursday September 4 of a new studio / art-viewing space in the hip new art precinct of Lorne Street.

Contemporary art specialist Paul Baragwanath is starting off his new venture with a personal selection of avant garde art, delicious cocktails and a guest list which includes some of the country's best known art patrons - and the new generation of arts enthusiasts who aren't afraid to put their money where the art is.

The highlight of the evening will be a performance of 'Taualuga; the last dance' by renowned performance and visual artist Shigeyuki Kihara.

'Taualuga; the last dance' previews the artist's performance and exhibition later this year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York.

Kihara's performance art piece combines photography, dance, audio and historical costume, a work that Baragwanath describes as powerful, beautiful and incredibly engaging.

"I want my clients to experience the magic of her work and the unique combination of dignity and drama that distinguishes much of her practice," enthuses Baragwanath.

Combining a studio space and personal selection of art by avante-garde, contemporary artists, Paul Baragwanath has been sure to include rising star Kihara's photographic works in his new collection.

This exciting event will be held at Paul Baragwanath & Art on Thursday 4 September. Entry is by invitation only. www.artt.co.nz
