Clay Bodvin, Sarah Munro and Jon Chapman-Smith personally manipulate technology in differing degrees to create their work. Digital technology becomes a tool, inextricably bound into their art practice, much like the traditional paintbrush and canvas.

Their work can be seen at Corban Estate Arts Centre in Waitakere City from January 25 to February 24.Bodvin's new work from the Cut-Up Series are new collage, montage and marouflage work, which the artist initially composes with digital scissors and scalpels.

Several pieces have also been remade (from previously-produced prints and paintings) in the recycling tradition of Lee Krasner. Two new works, also the largest, are purely digital cut-ups and of particular interest. These evidence a merging of stylistic devices including some mixed media handwork by the artist.

Presumed realities of space, depth, perspective and composition are questioned while the disjointed yet cohesive flavour of Cut-up Poetry is captured.

Bodvin's evolving experiment with the still life continues with unexpectedly challenging results. The work exhibited demonstrates that a painting certainly doesn't have to be painted.
