The Design and Arts College of New Zealand’s (D&A) Architectural Design students are currently preparing for their graduating exhibition, Revitalising the City set to open on 17 June 2010.

Third year students were given a brief for which they were to utilise one of three existing gap sites in the Christchurch City Centre. They were to design a building to respond to the cities needs and draw people back into the centre to create a vibrant, bustling metropolis.

“The council’s revitalisation plans aim to create diversity in the city centre and identifies mixed-use buildings as key. Students were to design a hybrid building which combined a 21st century workspace and an event space for up to 300 people” explains Leo Harris, Architectural Design and Technology Programme Coordinator.

D&A’s Architectural Design course educates students in both the technical groundings of building and construction, as well as an understanding of architecture and urban design. The course once again produced top results last year with 100% of graduates gaining work in the industry or moving on to higher education.

D&A would like to extend an invitation for you to attend this unique event along with key industry members, family and friends.

Revitalising the City runs from opening night Thursday 17 June (5.30pm-7pm) until Wednesday 7 July, 9am-5pm Monday to Friday at D&A, 116 Worcester Street, Christchurch.
